THE RACE
3000 miles of hot, fierce & diverse Atlantic ocean, racing from the volcanic shores of San Sebastian de La Gomera, Spain to paradise in Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua.
A RACE ACROSS THE OCEAN
In December 2026, You Row Girl will compete in a race called the 'The World's Toughest Row' a 3000 mile endurance challenge across the Atlantic Ocean.
The World’s Toughest Row runs annually starting in December, where rowers of all ages and genders from around the world, share the aim of rowing 3000 miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua, in the Caribbean. The race is completed as teams or solo where they are all fully self-sufficient, relying on a watermaker, navigational equipment, satellite phone, dehydrated rations and their own ability to make the crossing, fighting through 20ft + waves, sleep deprivation and the forces of the ocean environment.
You Row Girl will be rowing in a boat specially designed for oceans, built to withstand the tough marine environment. Like all adventure sports, ocean rowing is not without its risks, however all teams are supported 24/7 via satellite phone by the race’s land based duty officers and two safety yachts in case of emergency. The team will also be required to complete several safety courses to prepare for the row, as well as a number of mandatory rowing hours.
The Challenge
World’s Toughest Row brings together teams from all walks of life united by the same objective: to take on the unique challenge of crossing an ocean in a rowing boat. The atmosphere is electric as people help each other prepare for the challenge of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Teams battle with sleep deprivation, salt sores, and physical extremes inflicted by the race. Rowers are left with their own thoughts, an expanse of the ocean and the job of getting the boat safely to the other side.
